Cross Mountain

Great "in-town" short hike! Perfect at dusk or dark to look over the city, Cross Mountain is a historic marl and limestone hill with an elevation of 1951 ft. It was an Indian lookout prior to early settlers. In 1847 during the settling of Fredericksburg, a timber cross was found on the hilltop. Early Fredericksburg pioneers gave this hill the name “Kreuzberg” or Cross Mountain. In 1946, the permanent lighted cross was raised.
